What is the difference between a landscaper and a gardener?
The main difference is a landscaper is going to do all of the construction side of the project and a gardener the planting and maintenance side of the garden and when you chose us to carry out your projects, you have the same team on the job thought out.
What type of paving is now in fashion?
Over the years we have seen paving stones in gardens change dramatically.
Originally, we would have installed the traditional crazy paving or Indian sandstone paving, a good robust paving slab and generally reasonably priced.
There has been a shift over the last few years to an Italian Porcelain, they are naturally less porous and so great for busy families with children and pets as they don’t tend to stain, so look great for longer in a busy garden space. They have the added benefit of coming in any colour and you can match the flooring colour from your indoor living area with you garden patio.
Will this be a fixed price or are there any hidden extras?
Generally, all of the prices provided by Ground Force Landscaping are fixed prices, but it is important to highlight that in a few cases, issue can arise during then project, eg if you are taking up an old cement patio area and you find a hidden manhole cover, this wouldn’t have been evident when providing the quote.
The clients will be advised immediately before any works continue and a discussion about what additional works are required and any subsequent costs will be given in writing before carrying on with the project. This is a rare occasion but it can happen and so must be highlighted.
Do we need to supply anything for our Garden re-design?
Yes, your ideas, energy and vision and that is it, just let us spend time with you in the space and help the team understand how you need to use the garden space, what you need it to do for you. When you are investing in your garden, it is a similar project to getting an internal space renovated in your home, so thinking about how you use the garden, how you want to enjoy the space or how functional you need the garden space to be will help our grounds team to build your vision into a picture for you.
How do I make my garden more private?
If you garden is overlooked by neighbours, there are some stunning varieties of trees that can be used to give you more privacy in the garden and also create some shade if you have a larger garden.
We can provide a variety of recommendations, which would always include an Evergreen Magnolia this gives you a full year of foliage, a Pleached Hornbeam (Carpinus Betula) providing glorious autumnal colours to match a red bricked property, or a Silver Birch with its brilliant white bark and the delicate yellow catkins in spring, these grow quickly and are a great for creating privacy.
You can also use a combination of fencing with climbers, along with a range of larger shrubs, all adding to the scents and colours in your new garden space.
Can you explain where the waste goes and do you recycle?
This has become a big worry for many customers since the programme on BBC’s Panorama, where a team of undercover journalists managed to expose the extent of fly tipping in England.
We are able to show are clients our Full Waste Carrier Licence, this is a register held by the government and is publicly available for our customers to view.
We only use a local registered Skip company and if we are removing any green or wood waste, this is specifically managed depending on the waste type. All our wood waste becomes chip and is either used as bark cuttings or for biomass fuels.
How much will a garden redesign cost?
This is always so difficult to answer as it of course depends on the size of your garden, how much you need changing or rearranging, what the access arrangements are like.
How you want to use your garden also makes a big difference to a budget and its good to have a think before you invite a landscaper around as to what you want to use the garden for.
Then you need to consider what plants and trees you want and how mature they will need to be at the time of purchase. Once this has all been discussed, as you walk around the garden with the team, they will be able to give you a guide price with an accurate quote being sent in writing.
Finding a local landscaping team is also really important as you may need a maintenance programme as part of the on-going upkeep of the garden and it is important you have a clear idea of those costs up front at the beginning of the project.
